What is a posed wedding photograph?
What is a posed wedding photograph - this is a question I ask my prospective couples a lot. Usually because they start off chatting to me and say stuff like "we don't posed photographs". That's fine. I don't do posed photos either (excpet th eodd one and even then they are not overly posed). I like normal, natural kind of things.
What do I mean by posed wedding photograph?
All people stand in a particualr way that is comfortable to thm. They hold each others hands in a particualr way, they kiss in a particular way, they hug in a particular way. It's basic body langauge. When a couple are asked to do something that doesn't feelnatural to them they look uncomfortable...and that is when I say it's a posed photograph.
My aim for my wedding photographs is for the couple to look back on the included wedding album in 10 or 20 years and still recognise themselves. I want their kids, if they have any, to look at my wedding photographs and recognise their parents as being themselves, being natural and looking like they had a good time. Not looking like they were asked to stand in a particular way, nice though it may be, and feel uncomfortable.
The main photo above here is an unposed one. I just asked Jess & Ashlee to stand next to each other and look at each other.
What is a posed wedding photograph?
The photos below are from a recent Business of Wedding Photography workshop I ran in Birmingham. Amy, the model, arrived complete with a wedding dress. Seom of these are posed - i.e. I have directed her to do something, and some are totally natural.
