15 Reasons Not To Book Andrew Miller Photography.

"People don't buy what you do. People buy why you do it."

A list of 15 reasons why you SHOULD NOT get in touch.

Honestly, every single wedding photographer seems to say they are amazing, fantastic etc etc.  I'm the same - but I also know that I have my...shall we say...' quirks ' (*Just like you two have quirks!!)

Cornhill Castle Biggar Wedding Photographer

So with that in mind, I want to work with people who don't mind me being me when I'm at work. And when I'm photographing your wedding for 16 hours you really need to know what I'm like or it will be a long ole day.  Saying that I wouldn't take your money and booking.  If I don't like you or don't think we'll get on it's best to say so then waste your wedding day with someone you don't like.

Choosing a wedding photographer should be more than price, its about style, value for money, what's included, personality, willingness to go the extra mile, experience and much more.

This seems a bit light-hearted but, honestly, I'd prefer you to be forewarned about me and what I offer over and above the photography and more importantly about the type of couple I want to work with.

11 reasons not to book andrew miller photography

Reason 1: Expect Shenanigans (and Great Photos)

Alright, let's address the elephant in the room – or rather, the photographer who isn't the elephant in the room because he's too busy making sure everyone's having a blast. I'm not what you'd call a wallflower. This is my actual, full-time, "I need to pay for my fancy camera gear and a mortgage" job, and if I'm not enjoying it, something's seriously wrong. So, if you want a photographer who's part-time hype man, part-time dress logistics expert (yes, I've got tips for the loo), and full-time fun-haver, then great! If you prefer your photographer to be seen and not heard... well, we might not be a match made in heaven.

But hey, don't just take my word for my wonderfully boisterous nature. My amazing clients are practically my cheerleading squad:

Kate, via Google: "Ps. He has a great presence on the wedding day. He makes sure that all your guests also get the perfect shot and will show others where the best place to stand is and how to get good lighting. Will happily let little ones look at the camera and take photos. Don’t forget to feed him Jaffa cakes!” (She knows the way to my heart.)

Gemma, also via Google: "Andrew is an amazing photographer, laughed our way through my wedding day with him. Not only does he take beautiful pictures, but he also made us relaxed and ensured the day ran smoothly. Andrew is extremely organised and commands the room which was handy to get our guest’s attention for group photos! Can’t believe how fast we got a copy of our pictures to look through (the next day). Absolute pleasure to work with and can’t recommend him highly enough. Can’t wait to use him again for our anniversary party :)" (Basically, I'm a wedding day ninja... with a loud voice and a timeline.)

Plot Twist!

Now, here's the plot twist: despite my tendency to, shall we say, engage with the room, my many years (let's just say I'm "experienced") in previous careers have given me a surprising knack for connecting with everyone. Whether you're super introverted, a bit shy, or simply neurodiverse, and yes, even the tiny whirlwind children, I know how to make you feel comfortable and genuinely seen. So, don't let the "not a quiet guy" bit fool you – I'm just as adept at a calm, supportive approach as I am at corralling your crazy uncle for a group shot!

Reason 2: Your Pre-Wedding Photography Session – No More Awkward Poses!

Let's face it, getting in front of a camera can feel a bit... well, awkward. Maybe you've had a bad experience (was your mum's "smile!" command more of a threat?), or perhaps you just don't think you're "photogenic." Trust me, I hear it all the time!

That's precisely why a pre-wedding photography session is included in ALL my collections. This isn't just about pretty pictures; it's about making you feel completely at ease. It's our chance to:

  • Get comfortable together. Think of it as a fun warm-up act for the main event.

  • Explore your venue. We'll scout out the best spots and chat about all those dream shots you have in mind.

  • Shake off those camera nerves. By the end, you'll be posing like pros (or at least having a good laugh trying!).

Want to bring the kids along and make it a relaxed family affair? Fantastic! Or maybe you'd prefer a solo session and get pampered beforehand? Totally your call. If we can squeeze in more than one shoot, even better – bring your bridal party, your dog, your great aunt Mildred – I genuinely don't mind! The more I get to know you and your loved ones, the smoother your wedding day will run, and the more authentic and beautiful your photographs will be.

So, if the thought of a relaxed, fun meet-up to play with cameras, explore your venue, hash out ideas, and even plan for a "wet weather wonderland" doesn't sound appealing, then we might not be the perfect match. But if it does, let's chat!

Reason 3: Your Photographer, Your Unofficial Wedding Day Emergency Kit (with a Camera)

Look, I've photographed over 1,000 weddings in 18 years. That's a lot of beautiful chaos. And in that time, I've learned that being a wedding photographer sometimes means being an honorary bridesmaid, a human lint roller, and a mobile haberdashery all rolled into one.

Seriously, I come prepared. My camera bags aren't just for lenses; they're essentially a Mary Poppins bag of wedding day miracles. Sewing brides into dresses? Been there, stitched that. Ironing groom's shirts? Crispness is my middle name. Need lipstick for touch-ups, shoe polish, eyelash glue, hair grips, hairspray, deodorant, spare sparklers, a blister kit, extra headpieces, bling, or even a couple of spare cathedral-length veils? Yep, I've got you covered. It's astonishing what a wedding day throws at you, and even more astonishing that it's usually the photographer who's packing the goods.

My reviews are practically a testament to my emergency preparedness, so clearly, this "helping hand" thing is a pretty big deal to my couples. If you don't value an organised professional who's seen it all and comes armed for anything (besides a camera, of course), then I'm probably not the wedding photographer for you. Consider me your wedding day MVP – Most Valuable Photographer.

Reason 4: Group Photos? Oh, I Love 'Em! (Seriously.)

Alright, confession time: some photographers treat group photos like a trip to the dentist – a necessary evil to be gotten over as quickly as possible. Not me! I absolutely love taking group photographs, and I don't believe in those ridiculous limits of "8 or 9" shots. We're talking a minimum of 20 during the main flurry, and as many as your heart desires throughout the rest of the day. Consider it a challenge!

Now, you might be thinking, "Twenty group photos? Won't that take forever?!" Nope! They really don't take as long as you imagine, especially when you're organised (and I'm basically a ninja master of organisation – I'll get us sorted). But here's the real talk: these photos are absolutely priceless down the line. They're the ones you'll look back at and cherish, especially as time marches on and some beloved faces might not be with us anymore.

And how do I manage to wrangle everyone without causing a full-blown family feud? Simple! My cameras shoot at a lightning-fast 30 frames a second (meaning I capture everyone's best blink-free smile), I bring a lively sense of humour and banter that works on guests of all ages, and I have an uncanny knack for charming (or subtly blackmailing) kids to stand still.

So, instead of a stressful photo op, expect genuine fun and laughter during your group shots. You might even enjoy them!

Orchardleigh Estate Wedding Photographer

If you are not bothered about group photographs of your family and best mates and don’t want those memories, I’m not the wedding photographer for you.

This has to be another of the important reasons in my list of Reasons not to book Andrew Miller Photography.  If you really don't want family/group shots then I'd prefer you didn't get in touch.

Reason 5: I Laugh in the Face of Darkness (and Bring My Own Sun)

Living in the UK, we're all too familiar with the sun clocking out ridiculously early for half the year. Most photographers would pack up their bags, declare "Welp, that's it for the light!", and be home sipping tea by 6 PM. Not me!

This is where I become your personal light magician. It gets dark? No problem! I bring my own portable sun (aka external flash) to craft some seriously dramatic and powerful wedding art. Dreaming of a late, epic wedding celebration that stretches into the night? Again, absolutely no issue for me!

When I say "no time limits," I truly mean it. While other photographers are heading for the hills (or their sofas), I'll be there, creating amazing wedding photographs for you in the dark. We're talking coloured lights, a touch of smoke (yes, I come with my own atmosphere!), and some creative wizardry in editing to give you a collection of photos that are anything but ordinary. Your love story doesn't stop when the sun goes down, and neither do I!

Reason 6: Time? What's Time? (My Clock Runs on Memories, Not Hours)

Honestly, if I see one more wedding photographer offering "8 hours for £X" or "10 hours for £Y," I might just spontaneously combust. Seriously? In nearly 1,000 weddings, I have never witnessed a timeline that was adhered to so strictly you could set a Swiss watch by it. Weddings are beautifully unpredictable!

That's why I embrace the chaos. I pretty much shoot from prep to first dance, or if you're feeling fancy with fireworks or a sparkler exit, I'll be there until the last fizzle. It's not about the clock; it's about the photography. Some weddings, I "win" and wrap up in a breezy 10 hours. Other times, I "lose" (but you totally win!) and I'm still there after 16 hours, creating magic. Either way? Same price, same stellar service, same ridiculously good experience!

So, if you're looking for a Bristol wedding photographer who's going to nickel and dime you for every extra hour, or worse, pack up their gear before the real party even kicks off, then I'm definitely not your guy. I don't do the "I'll start 90 minutes before your service" or "if you don't do your first dance by 8 PM, that's extra" nonsense.

This is your day. You're paying me to be there, and I'll stick around as long as there are amazing memories to capture.

Think of me as your personal, very patient, and well-(de) caffeinated wedding memory-maker.

Reason 7: I'm a 10%er (The Good Kind, For Your Walls!)

Here's a little secret about me: I'm a total "10%er." No, not in the tax sense (don't worry!), but in the "only about 10% of people ever print their photos" sense. And frankly, it drives me bonkers! What's the point of me creating Instagram-busting, jaw-dropping wedding photographs if they're just going to live on a hard drive somewhere, gathering digital dust? It's like baking a magnificent cake and then never eating it!

That's why I put my money where my mouth is: all of my wedding photography collections INCLUDE an album or print product. As in, it's not an optional extra, it's baked right into the price you see. And don't worry, the digital images are included too – for all your social media bragging needs.

If you don't value seeing your incredible memories come to life on paper, beautifully displayed for years to come, then honestly, I'm probably not your guy. There are plenty of "digital only" photographers out there who'll charge you more for less. But for me, the magic truly happens when your wedding art moves from pixels to prints. So, if you're not on board with tangible memories, this might just be one of the top reasons to keep scrolling!

Edit – Actually… this has now gracefully retired 😄

I’ve split things out so physical albums and digital options now live in their own lanes. As I start easing off the throttle—shooting fewer weddings and spending more time living the glamorous campervan life—it turns out albums were staging a quiet rebellion behind the scenes… and winning.

So this change keeps things simpler, smoother, and a lot more enjoyable all round—for me and for my couples. More focus on the good stuff, less wrestling with boxes of paper pretending to be well-behaved albums.

Reason 8: I'm Surprisingly Child-Friendly (Despite My Best Efforts to Be the Child Catcher)

Alright, full disclosure: I might have a nose like the Child Catcher from Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, and in my darker moments, I fantasize about a world where children are seen and, preferably, not heard (up the chimneys or down the pits, anyone?). BUT, and this is a big but, I absolutely love it when kids want to take photos with my cameras!

Even better, we have a little game: they take a photo, then it's my turn to take a photo with them in it. It's a cunning plan, really. I even encourage your little rascals to join us for the pre-wedding shoot – let's make it a full-blown family circus!

And just to make life easier (and to ensure my expensive gear doesn't end up on eBay), all my nice, light Fuji cameras have a big, obvious red shutter button for those tiny, eager fingers. Easy peasy!

(P.S. That stuff about plastic ties and masking tape for unruly kids? Totally a joke. Mostly. 😉)

If you're bringing children to your wedding, this is a biggie. If you don't want your kids to actually enjoy the wedding day and feel like rockstar participants, then honestly, don't bother getting in touch. Because for me, happy kids often mean happy parents, and that means even better photos.

(Oh, and I only charge double if any children under the age of 21 are present at the wedding. Kidding! Mostly. Unless they're really unruly... 😉)

Reason 9: My Secret Weapon (and Your Discount Code) – Jaffa Cakes!

Okay, let's talk about the real currency of my business: Jaffa Cakes. I adore them. Seriously, they're my kryptonite. If you're not a fan of these glorious chocolatey, orangey biscuits (or, heaven forbid, you're not prepared to bribe me with a steady supply on your wedding day), then I'm probably not the wedding photographer for you. Consider it a non-negotiable clause in our unwritten contract. 😉

P.S. Here's a pro tip: Bring Jaffa Cakes along when we meet for our chat. If we hit it off and decide we're a match made in wedding heaven, you instantly snag a 10% discount! No Jaffa Cakes, no discount. You have been officially warned. My sweet tooth means serious savings for you!

Reason 10: Jaffa Cakes (Yes, We're Doing This Again)

Just in case it somehow slipped your mind (or you haven't been paying attention!), let me reiterate with the gravity it deserves: I really like Jaffa Cakes.

These little disks of joy aren't just a preference; they're my high-octane wedding fuel. When the day is a whirlwind and there's no time for a proper meal, Jaffa Cakes are my meticulously calibrated blend of emergency calories, instant sugar rush, and essential carbs. They keep me upright, functioning, and capturing your epic memories when all other fuel sources have deserted me.

So, let's be abundantly clear: No Jaffa Cakes, No Discount. Even if I adore you. Even if we're practically best friends by the end of our initial chat. My love for your wedding photos is immense, but my love for a good Jaffa Cake is a non-negotiable business expense. You've been warned (again!).

Reason 11: I'm Your Best Bridesmaid (No Dress Required... Unless?)

Okay, let's be real: I'm basically the ultimate bridesmaid, except you don't have to worry about finding a dress that fits me (though, to be fair, if you did get me one of those "Bride Tribe" or "Groom Gang" dressing gowns with "Photographer" emblazoned on the back, taking your photos in it would be an absolute riot! Just saying...).

On a slightly more serious note, it's because I'm with you pretty much all the time. I'm the designated "stuff carrier" for everything you can't juggle. I'm the one thinking of all those tiny, crucial things that inevitably slip your mind amidst the wedding-day whirlwind.

I've genuinely lost count of the times I've found myself wrangling a rogue dress train while a bridesmaid was... well, somewhere else. Or performing emergency surgery on a suit button, applying plasters to dancing-induced blisters, ensuring pocket squares are looking sharp, buttonholes are perfectly pinned, bouquets are droplet-free, and dresses are expertly tied (or crocheted!) up.

My secret? I have a magic little black bag (think Mary Poppins, but with more hairspray and less talking parrot). The less stressed you are, the more genuine your smiles will be, and frankly, the better your photographs will look. It's that simple!

My proudest moment in 2024? Providing sparkly hairpieces for a bridesmaid, courtesy of yours truly, via a tactical detour to Claire's Accessories. See? I'm full of surprises!

Reason 12: You Don't Just Get Photos, You Get the Full Andrew Miller Wedding Experience!

Let's be upfront: I'm not perfect. I've got a few quirks. My biggest flaw? My invoicing system. I'm a professional at either sending you two invoices for the price of one (oops!) or, more likely, completely forgetting to invoice you at all. So, if you suddenly get amazing photos without a bill, you know why. Consider it a bonus, an accidental act of generosity!

But here's the real deal: my primary mission isn't just to snap pictures; it's to make your entire wedding journey, from the moment you start planning until long after the last dance, memorable for all the right reasons. When you book me, you're not just hiring a guy with a fancy camera; you're getting a dedicated partner in crime (the good kind, of course).

This "experience" I'm talking about? It's all those little things that add up. It's me subtly looking out for your lovely elderly relatives, making sure they're comfortable. It's me expertly holding babies (though let's be clear, nappy changes are still firmly outside my job description – I have limits!). It's the inevitable stream of questionable banter and genuinely terrible jokes that will punctuate your day.

All of that, the logistical wizardry, the moral support, the questionable humour, the occasional invoicing mishap – that's all part of the Andrew Miller Wedding Experience. It's about ensuring your day is filled with joy, laughter, and perhaps a few eye-rolls at my jokes, all while I capture every precious moment. Think of it as a full-service, laughter-infused memory-making machine, with me at the controls.

Reason 13: It's Not You, It's... Well, It Might Be Me. Or You. (We'll See!)

Alright, let's get to the brass tacks, and this one's probably the most crucial from my perspective. Unlike most transactions where you book them, when it comes to your wedding photography, it's more of a mutual agreement. Think of it less as you booking me, and more as me agreeing to work with you.

I insist on meeting every potential client in person (Zoom is fine for the initial flirtation, but eventually, we need real-life coffee and awkward handshakes). Why? Because this isn't a one-sided interview. This is actually three people getting together to see if we like each other. It's not all about you, and it's certainly not all about me. It's about chemistry, shared vibes, and whether we can spend 12+ hours together without someone needing a stiff drink.

And yes, I get it, sometimes parents are heavily involved. If Mum and dad want to join our little compatibility test, I'm absolutely fine with that. After all, they might be contributing to the Jaffa Cake fund, right?

Here's the kicker: every year, I politely refuse to book 2 or 3 couples because, frankly, I don't feel I'm the right photographic flavour for their big day. And equally, several awesome couples I meet end up turning me down. And you know what? That's all for the good as far as I'm concerned! It means everyone ends up with the perfect match, and that's exactly how it should be. So, let's have a chat and see if our wedding destiny aligns!

Reason 14: My Price (It's a Bargain, I Swear!)

Okay, prepare yourselves, because this might shock you: I'm actually putting the price down?! (Not really, but it feels like a steal for what you get). Look, I get it. Budgets. We all have them. Some are champagne and caviar, some are... well, more Jaffa Cakes and instant coffee. My pricing philosophy? I'm not "cheap" (unless you count my jokes), but I'm certainly not "expensive" either.

Think of me as the perfectly-priced middle ground, like a really good, artisanal sausage roll.

Currently, my lowest wedding photography collection starts at a mere £1,300 (and that's before your incredibly wise Jaffa Cake discount). For that modest sum, you don't just get a guy with a camera; you get:

  • 31 years of photographic wisdom (18 of those full-time, meaning I've seen it all, twice).
  • No time limits on your wedding day – I'm like a persistent, photo-snapping limpet.
  • A limited number of weddings per year so you feel exclusive, like you've got the golden ticket.
  • My "extra help" service – I'm a human Swiss Army knife of sewing kits, veils, nail glue, hairspray, plasters, and pins.
  • A fun, relaxed, and occasionally hilarious presence at your wedding (see Reasons 1, 8, and 12).
  • A same-day slideshow (prepare for tears, mostly happy ones).
  • White umbrellas because... well, UK weather. 'Nuff said.
  • "No Photos Allowed" signage – I bring my own! Saves you a fiver and stops Aunt Mildred from elbowing the official photographer.
  • A smorgasbord of natural, candid, documentary, and dramatically lit photos.
  • I don't stop when it gets dark; I just create epic night-time images (see Reason 5, my light wizardry).
  • Prices are fixed when you book, because nobody likes nasty surprises.
  • No extra charges if you, for some reason, decide to elope to Vegas and then change your mind (re: date moves).
  • A fancy merchant account invoice system with all the bells and whistles (even if I sometimes mess up the invoicing – see Reason 12).
  • Flexible payment options (instalments or lump sum, because adulting is hard).
  • A contract so thorough, it might just be longer than your wedding vows.
  • All the usual boring insurance stuff that makes me a legitimate professional and not just a random bloke with a DSLR.

I reckon that's a pretty sweet deal. According to Hitched Magazine, for all of that, I should be charging upwards of £3,000! So, consider this your heads-up: my prices might just get a little more "exclusive" next year. Get in quick before I realise I'm wildly underselling myself!

Reason 15: My Price Tag is a Time Capsule (No Inflation Here!)

Let's talk money, but without the usual financial heartburn. If your idea of a good time is booking a wedding photographer who treats their prices like a yo-yo, constantly hiking them up the further in advance you book (oh, the dreaded "annual inflation increase"!), then I'm probably not your guy. Feel free to click away, there are plenty of financial sadists out there.

Me? My prices are set in stone (or at least, very firmly in writing in your contract) the moment you book. Consider it a time capsule for your wallet – no sneaky increases, no hidden charges. Even if the economy goes wild, my price for you stays fixed. And, because I'm all about flexibility, if your circumstances do a little dance, you can even downgrade your wedding photography collection. Try finding that kind of chill elsewhere!

That's a Wrap (Now Go Get Those Jaffa Cakes!)

So, there you have it! My magnificent 15 Reasons Not to Book Andrew Miller Photography. If you've laughed (or at least internally chuckled), if any of this resonated with your wonderfully chaotic wedding vision, and if you think you can pass my incredibly strict (read: "just bring me Jaffa Cakes") booking criteria, then what are you waiting for? Get in touch! My camera (and my stomach) are ready.

Andrew Miller

Andrew Miller

Weak tea-drinking, crap joke-telling, Jaffa Cake eating, Bon Jovi loving, incredibly handsome wedding photographer (probably).

As a tea-sipping, pun-cracking, Jaffa Cake munching, Bon Jovi enthusiast, and strikingly good-looking wedding photographer (most likely), I am more than just a Bristol-based wedding photographer.

Wedding photographers in Bristol, like myself, often go beyond just capturing images.

I meticulously plan, organise, and create lasting wedding memories for weddings in Bristol and Somerset. My camera bags carry more non-photography related items than most would carry in a purse... Hairspray. Brush. Hair Grips. Jaffa Cakes. Deodorant. Blister kit. Plasters. Paracetamol. Crochet hook. Unicorns. Eyelash glue. Sewing kit. Heel Protectors. Scissors. Nail file. Bust tape. Umbrellas. Emergency hygiene kit.

Why do I do this? Because the last thing you need on your wedding day is to stress over the small stuff. Let me handle those details while you focus on celebrating the day with your loved ones.

And did I mention my fondness for Jaffa Cakes? I usually have a box or two on hand, just in case! ;-)

Red Flags When We Meet

NO Jaffa Cakes.  You bring me a box (or more if you fancy) of Jaffa Cakes when we meet and I’ll give you a 10% discount. No Jaffa Cakes, no discount.  This is firm rule (not a guideline by the way).

I don’t share my Jaffa Cakes.  Don’t make me fight you to prove it. I have no scruples when dealing with Jaffa Cakes.

NO Bon Jovi.  Optional, but bonus points if you like Bon Jovi!

NO Weak De-Caf Tea.  Optional...but you'll get hundreds of points if you can make me a cuppa that is perfect.  Decaf tea, no milk, no sugar and weak enough to see the bottom of the mug easily.

TL;DR

No pretentious crap.  Just solid hard work and amazing wedding photography. Just buy me Jaffa Cakes.
