It’s a tough question in this age of digital only photographers and price conscious couples.  I have been a fulltime wedding photographer for 12 years, with a full order book for those 12 years.

I don’t enter awards. I don’t enter competitions.  I just do my job as well as I can do – and for me that job is to present my couples with a wedding album. Every. Single. Time.

Every one of my couples gets an album.  Some get a small one, some a medium one, some a larger one.  But they all get one.  Why?  Technology sucks.

I’m old enough to remember 5 ¼ inch floppy discs.  3 ½ inch floppy discs.  CD’s. DVD’s. USB 1. USB 2. USB 3 and now USB C.  Guess what – those CD’s I gave out 12 years are pretty much old technology no.  Even the USB 1, USB 2 and USB 3 are on the way out due to USB C.

And that’s if they can find the USB in the first place as it will be shoved in the ubiquitous kitchen draw that is full of crap that we all seem to have in our homes ;-)

What my couples still have though, regardless of the technology in their houses, is the wedding album.  It will last for a lifetime and in fact I offer a guarantee it will last a lifetime.

I’ve got my mums wedding album – it’s 53 years old and yes, it looks old fashioned (white cushioned cover etc) but those black & white photos sandwiched between tissue paper are pristine. It’s older than the 5 ¼ floppy, holds more photographs, looks better on a shelf and is way more easily accessible! The 5 ¼” floppy came out in the mid 1970’s.  It’s younger than I am so certainly younger than my mums wedding album.

In 5 years’ time that USB C will be out of date technology with couples coming back and asking to get newer but soon to be outdated technology..  My wedding album will still be there in 50 year’s time.

Check out the selection of wedding albums I've delivered to couple over the years.

And if you are a professional photographer looking to give albums to your clients check out this link - you will get a discount ;-)
