Wedding Fayres – why do I do so many wedding fayres…
Why do I do so many wedding fayres…?
…because as the old sales adage goes “you sell what you show.” and I include wedding albums in EVERY wedding photography collection I offer. I don’t run a studio or other open space for public visits, drop-ins etc so my main way of getting to chat to real interested couples is via wedding fayres.
Why so many wedding albums?
Compared to many, many other wedding photographers who attend wedding fayres I have way more wedding albums on display. At the last count, at home, I have around 40 sample wedding albums of various sizes. Each album also has a presentation case with it. I want to show couples what my work is like IN PRINT because to me printing your wedding photographs matters. I don’t offer a digital-only collection – every collection gets a wedding album & digital images via a free download gallery.
I pick and choose which albums to bring along depending on which venue I am going to be at so that couples have a wide choice to look through.
I sell what I show, so showing wedding albums indicates what I find valuable. If couples don’t want a wedding album they won’t book me. I don’t mind that – I want to find couples who will book me for my work, my albums and more importantly my sense of humour ;-) !

I do so many wedding fayres as it gives me a chance to speak to real people who are really interested in me, my work, my prices, my albums, my love of Jaffa Cakes and my sense of humour.
Yes, it is expensive – but any kind of marketing is expensive and you just have to suck up the price of them and attend.
A wedding album as a family heirloom
Yes – a family heirloom. I also insist on family photographs. I actively ask couples to give me a list of shots they would like of thier family. Because in a few years people who attended that wedding may no longer be with us, and looking at a USB just doesn’t bring about the same memories as a printed photograph. That’s if you can find the USB in the first place.
I want their kids to look at mum & dad or whatever combination of family parents and laugh at the fashion sense, laugh at the details and remember the fun times. You can’t do that with a USB.

So I suppose I’m being selfish about wedding albums. I like them and want people to have them. I don’t offer them as an extra – they are THAT important to me I include them. And yes, make a little less profit margin but that is my choice.
