Cardiff Entertainment
I realise that my choice of title is rather bold. The entire notion of something being 'the best in the world' is at best an entirely subjective belief rather than a hard proven fact. Even forms of competitions designed to determine such claims are flawed; due to the fact it's limited to the people taking part, and not, in fact, a true study of the abilities of the entire worlds population.
However, you'll often find yourself reading such phrases as "Wales' Finest Magician" or "UK's Best Wedding Band" when searching for Cardiff Entertainment or Corporate Entertainment.
Often this is merely a form of theatrical licence designed to lure you into booking them as a Wedding Entertainer or Corporate Entertainer. It's nothing new, especially in the egotistical world of the magical performer. It's been going on as long as showbiz itself. Take a look for yourself.
At Weiss Owl we understand the need for performers to use such titles as 'Award Winning Magician' and 'Best Wedding Magician' however, it's probably worth digging a little deeper to seek the validity of these claims as all too often they're either flawed or in some sad cases a complete fantasy. Often the awards they speak of are the result of winning a local magic competition, wherein the other competitors consisted of a plank of wood and some locally gathered plant life in a tuxedo. Hardly the stuff showbiz dreams are made of. So what is the cause of the misled self-belief that causes entertainers to make such inflated claims? Well unsurprisingly there is a name for such a thing.
Confirmation bias is something that we're all guilty of as humans. We tend to skew our opinions of things (especially ourselves) in a way that would inflate our own standpoint on a topic whilst disregarding any information that might prove the contrary. Typically, this is apparent in politics, religion and anything else that inherently involves strong opinion. It is also the lifeblood of the heated pub discussion on football and most rows between couples (we speak from experience).
We tend to look for evidence to support our own stand point, at the same time ignoring any conflicting proofs thrown our way. It's precisely the opposite of how a scientific proof works. In science, a theory is proposed and then intense experimentation is carried out trying to disprove it. Only when the theory has failed to be disproved at every opportunity, it becomes a fact. Even then the 'fact' is never final and can easily be discarded or modified depending on further developments.
At Weiss Owl, we don't claim to be scientists, although our mutual love of white coats and rubber gloves might imply otherwise (it was a long night). However, we are constantly striving to provide THE BEST service we can for our clients. By ensuring we are constantly exposed to what our competition is offering, and making sure that we are far surpassing not only what they can offer by also what our clients can expect, we are able to provide high quality bespoke wedding and corporate entertainment regardless of the size or needs of your event.
