Start walking the walk on wedding albums.
Dear wedding photographers,
If you really value the "memories" you create for your couples, include an album. Any album. Use Blurb or Photobox if you have to, but include an album.
- Albums are harder to lose. (Try putting an 8"x8" album in "that" drawer we all have in the kitchen!)
- Albums are longer lasting than individual prints. Individual prints will quickly become tatty and dog-eared.
- Albums are low tech and won't go out of date. What version of USB are we up to now?
- Albums are a physical manifestation that something really important happened.
- Albums are a visual representation of a historical moment.
- Albums are a families history & heirloom.
- Albums revive fading memories. You can't look at a USB and have it take you back to that precise moment in time...
Seriously, I'm fed up of reading wedding photographers websites that talk about the importance of documenting a wedding, the importance of having two photographers document a wedding, the importance of memories blah blah blah. They are just words in the wind on a website, and they don't really mean anything except to try to convince you they are sincere about memories.
They then give a cheap USB out with a bit of straw in a wooden box. A USB isn't documenting anything. It's a cheap bit of technology that will be out of date in a few years. (And don't get me started about how some of them talk about the environment and use that as the reason for giving USBs not albums!!)
I wish photographers would start being really open and honest. They don't want to include albums because it would mean them having to do more work, take a smaller profit margin etc. You know an 8"x8" album with 20 pages from the company I use (nPhoto) costs less than £70 cost price. There is NO excuse. If they really are serious about memories - prove it by including an album.
If a life-changing event is important enough to be documented and import enough to have a photographer there... it's important enough to include an album.
If the printed form isn't important why are marriage certificates still written out, in duplicate, and not given out on a USB?
#printsmatter #albumsmatter #printyourmemories#realmemoriesareprinted
Every wedding photography collection I offer includes an album and/or mounted prints. Every single one. Sure I make less money - but at least I'm honest and open when I say "memories are important."
Don't just talk the talk. Put your money where your mouth is and walk the walk.
