Group Wedding Photographs - Sort of a rant...but a rant against some wedding photographers.
Funerals and weddings. That's when families really make an effort to get together. So why oh bloody why do wedding photographers insist on not doing a lot of group wedding photographs?
I'm just editing the last wedding I did. Loads of groups. I mean loads of them - every combination you could imagine. And you know what - I loved every minute of taking them.
Why?
Because those group wedding photographs are a memory of the families that were at that wedding. the aunties, nieces, nephews, cousins, granddads, brothers, sisters etc.
A lot of these will make it into the wedding album, and years from now when their little boy is much older and those people are long dead (and I hope it is years and years before that happens) he will be able to look back on his family, and show, in all probability, his own kids that same album.
Please don't make the excuse it's about time - you have time; you just don't know how to manage it effectively. It's not about the excuse about 'style' of photography - I've not seen more than a handful of photographers who stick rigidly to one style or another. It's certainly not about the number of photographs you have to take either - chatting to one video guy today who mentioned that a well know Cardiff Wedding Photographer gives clients around 2,500 images and still doesn't do more than 3 or 4 groups photographs '...because they don't' have time'!! And that number of images isn't unusual either. (My thoughts on that issues are not for today...)
Take the group wedding photography shots, don't moan that they take too long and cut into 'your' time for 'your' photos.
End of rant! Group Wedding Photographs - spend the time to capture the memories.
