"Will you be wearing a mask when you photograph weddings?"
Would you believe that was a serious questions asked on a wedding photographers FaceBook group!
I'm just reading through the replies to the above question on a wedding photographer FaceBook group, and to be honest, I'm really surprised at the number of selfish people who won't wear a mask. Being blunt I think those refusing to wear a mask shouldn't be doing this job. You're obviously too selfish to be a decent caring human being that takes such an important aspect in preserving memories of people's wedding day.
Preserving those memories. Those refusing to wear a mask would prefer to preserve a photograph of a person that the real persons life? Probably only give a USB anyway, and those that follow me know my views on USB only.
It's not about you. It's about protecting those you go home to. It's about protecting the wedding couple and their guests. It's about protecting the wedding guests the next day or the next weekend at your next wedding.
I'd really hate to be the guy responsible, via contact tracing, for causing the illness, or God forbid, the death of a guest or worse.
Failure to follow the correct PPE guidance may well leave any non-mask wearing photographers wide open to litigation - before saying no to a mask I'd get it writing that your public liability insurance will cover you if you refuse to wear a mask or fail to follow accurately the guidance. Wearing a mask would be ensuring you carried out your duty of care in the workplace, a standard part of H&S legislation for years (just as walking out if you feel threatened or assaulted etc).
Imagine the shit storm on social media if you're the one being blamed for infections or deaths because you found wearing a mask uncomfortable. Say goodbye to your business in that case.

Wedding photographers with beards - shave. Your sartorial elegance isn't worth someone's life. Beards grow back. Style changes. Trends come and go. Life just goes. Forever.
If being trendy or looking hip or your style is more important to you than people's lives, well I feel sorry for you.
If the above offends ANY wedding photographer - feel free to block me when you see me comment as such on any FB groups etc if I offend you - and to be blunt I don' really care and you won't be missed by me. You should have the courage to stand up and be counted and show leadership - something I again constantly talk about that is lacking in this industry, despite the myriad of societies and professional organisations out there.

Just to reassure my current couples and future couples...
My full intentions are to ensure that your safety, your guest's safety and my own safety with regards to CV-19 and potential routes to infection are reduced and minimized as much as I can and are paramount at all times. If I'm 'that' guy telling you to be careful and keep the distance...it's because I care.
If you'd rather I not wear a mask let me know and I'll refund your booking fee or balance so far, minus any fixed costs to date. You're not my kind of client.
So to answer the question - masks at weddings for wedding photographers.
I'll be the guy, with glasses, in a mask taking amazing wedding photographs for you. I may wear a face shield at times if it's easier.
I'll be the guy with copious bottles of hand gel available, as well as the usual hairspray, hair grips, plasters, deodorant, shoe polish etc and the odd box or two of Jaffa Cakes. But you all know I don't share Jaffa Cakes!

For any other couples getting married reading this... it's your day and your call, but I'd be checking in with your wedding photographer and telling them they will be wearing a mask when required to do so, and asking for proof of public liability insurance upfront and make sure to check what it says about ignoring government guidance regarding public health statements.

I've been taking this seriously, very seriously, for a long time. I invested nearly £200 into PPE to ensure that I and my family (wife, 81 year old mother in law) had enough to allow a semblance to normality when out and about and to protect us AND others.
