Newport Wedding Photographer Andrew Miller on...
"Wedding Album Design"
One of the things I like to do is design all of my couples wedding albums. I don't outsource it to India or to the the back office of the album manufacture like some photographers. I shot the wedding so I know the photographs inside out, I know the emotion that was in the image and what it means to you. This give me the best insight in designing your wedding album.
Wedding Albums from Weddings I have Photographed
The Process
After your wedding or civil ceremony I take about 21 days to fully edit the images from your wedding. I burn a low resolution copy of these onto a CD and post the CD out to you for you to choose your wedding album photographs. Yes you read that correctly. You choose your images to go into your wedding album.
How many images can I choose?
You then get back in touch with your list of wedding images. Normally I ask for between 60-80 images to ensure that I get full range and selection to work with. There really isn't an upper limit on the number of photographs; the more you have the smaller they will be to fit in the album! I then arrange to come round and visit you and we can start designing the album together. This gives me a great insight into how you want your finished album to look; what effects you like and don't like etc.
I then go away and finish off the album. This takes me usually about 2 weeks. I upload a DRAFT preview of the album to a website for you to view and make any changes you like.
Want to make Changes?
Now, the way I like to think is this. Getting married is expensive. A wedding album is going to be with your for the rest of your life. I want to make so you get the album you want in the way you want it. Therefore I don't charge extra for any changes, amendments etc. (That's a good tip by the way when choosing a wedding photographer - do they charge for changes to album design and if so how much!). I also don't charge per photograph either, just by the number of pages.

How long does it take to get my album back?
Once you are completely happy with your wedding album I send it off to Italy to be printed. It normally takes about 8 weeks to get your album back, sometimes longer some times shorter. The exact time really depends on the size of the album
Wedding Albums from Photographs provided on DVD or CD-Rom
Many people go away to get married and get a local photographer to shoot the wedding with all images provided on a DVD / CD-Rom or just can't afford a wedding album at the time they were married. I can take photographs you provide (as long as you have the copyright to use them of course!) and put together a fantastic wedding album for you.
8 Stage Process
The process is a really simple 8 stage process:- You get in touch and we confirm what size and shape of album you would like.
- I then give you a bespoke price which includes all editing, resizing, re-touching etc of all images and send out a contract
- You return the contract and pay a deposit (50%) either by bank transfer, cheque or by Pay Pal from my website.
- You send your images to me either by FTP transfer or by Royal Mail on a DVD or CD-Rom
- I design your album and upload a DRAFT for you to preview
- I make any changes you want as many times as you want at no extra charge
- You give me the go ahead to print your album
- You have it back within 8 weeks from going to print.

And there you have it. Fairly simple and straightforward! With prices for bespoke wedding albums using your own wedding photographs (as long as you own the copyright remember!) start from only £450 what have you got to loose?!

Andrew Miller Photography only uses top of the range story book albums. The best, indeed the market leader and the market maker in this area is the Italian company Graphistudio.
